Welcome to Reception! We’re excited for a fantastic year of learning.
Our Reception team is made up of Mrs Farrant, Mrs Millar, Mrs Hanna, Miss Coe, Miss Yeo and Miss Barfoot and we will be teaching and supporting your children throughout the year.
This Term's Learning
The children have settled into Reception very well and have made a fantastic start to the term, becoming familiar with our routines, making new friendships and growing in confidence and independence. As part of our learning this term, we will be exploring the changing seasons and our light and dark science theme through lots of exciting, hands-on experiences. We will enjoy sharing stories including The Smartest Giant in Town and The Leaf Thief, using them as inspiration for our learning and conversations about kindness, our character strength this term. Through stories and circle time, we will talk about how we can be kind, caring and respectful towards others. We will also discover different cultures and religions through a range of festivals and celebrations, helping children to appreciate and celebrate the diversity of the world around us.
In phonics, we will enjoy our daily Monster Phonics sessions, while in maths we will explore counting, subitising and sorting. Through Expressive Arts, the children will have opportunities to be creative and explore different ways of representing themselves, including creating self-portraits. We will also practise our early writing skills through mark making and make the most of our outdoor learning opportunities. Early coding and computational thinking will be introduced through fun, practical activities using Bee-Bots. Each week, we will visit the school library to encourage a love of books and reading, as well as taking part in our weekly PE sessions, including SKIP activities.
Parents can support learning at home by encouraging children to use Reading Eggs to practise their early reading skills and Numbots to build confidence with numbers and maths. Even a few minutes of regular practice can make a real difference. It promises to be a busy and exciting term filled with exploration, creativity, curiosity and lots of fun!
