Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

Welcome to Year 3! We’re excited for a fantastic year of learning.

Our Year 3 team is made up of Mrs Hellier, Mrs Lake, Miss Cotter, Mr Nicholas, Mr Phelps and Mr Giannini, and we will be teaching and supporting your children throughout the year.

This Term's Learning

This term, our Year 3 learners will be focusing on Humanities, where they will travel back in time to learn all about the Romans. Children will explore what life was like in Roman times, including daily life, settlements, and the lasting impact the Romans have had on Britain.

To bring learning to life, we have a range of exciting educational visits planned. Pupils will visit Swansea Museum and Oriel Science Museum, giving them hands-on opportunities to deepen their understanding through real-life experiences. We will also be visiting the Baptist Church, where children will learn more about beliefs, community, and traditions.

Last Term's Learning

This term, our Year 3 pupils have had a fantastic start to the school year, enjoying a wide range of exciting and engaging learning experiences across the curriculum.

In Language, Literacy and Communication, children have developed their reading and writing skills through story, comprehension activities, poetry, and letter writing. A strong focus on spelling, handwriting, and prediction skills has helped pupils grow in confidence and express their ideas clearly.

Mathematics and numeracy lessons have been hands-on and meaningful, with children exploring place value, reasoning, ordering numbers, and interpreting bar charts. Real-life learning was brought into the classroom through financial literacy activities, helping pupils understand wants, needs, and money in everyday contexts.

In Science and Technology, we have been learning about space. The children have learnt about the planets, their order, and learnt interesting facts. In digital learning, have been learning to log into laptops independently and have been using key features in Hwb.

In Expressive Arts, pupils have been creating self-portraits, exploring warm and cool colours, studying the work of artists such as Alma Thomas, and enjoying music appreciation sessions. In Humanities, children developed their critical thinking skills through discussions on fairness, beliefs, and learning about Christianity.

Supporting children’s health and wellbeing has been central to our learning. Through circle time, emotional regulation sessions, sleep routine discussions, and pupil voice activities, children have been encouraged to share their thoughts, celebrate achievements, and build positive relationships.

Weekly PE sessions have helped pupils stay active and develop teamwork and coordination through gymnastics and SKIP activities. Regular library visits, assemblies, celebrations, and enrichment activities have added to an enjoyable and well-rounded term.
