Year 4
Welcome to Year 4
Our Year 4 team is made up of Mr Goss, Miss Dennis, Miss May, Miss Maynard and Mrs Raven. We will be teaching and supporting your children throughout the year.
This Term's Learning
This term, we are excited to be exploring a range of engaging new topics. In History, our focus will be on the British Empire, where children will learn how it developed and the impact it had on the world. Our Enterprise Challenge will give learners a real‑life opportunity to create and market their very own St. Thomas shop, working together to design products and prepare for selling them as part of a market stall in the city centre. In Science, we will be learning about plants, exploring how they grow and what they need to survive.
Alongside this, our P.E. lessons will focus on gymnastics, helping children build strength, balance and coordination, before gradually preparing for our summer sports day. As always, pupils will be encouraged to ask questions, share ideas and develop confidence as they learn through these exciting experiences together.
Last Term's Learning
Last term, the children took part in a varied and engaging learning journey across the curriculum. We explored the concept of Humanism, where pupils discussed different views about religion and values, and worked collaboratively to create a podcast to share their learning and opinions. In STEM, the children enjoyed hands‑on projects, including designing and building insect houses, developing problem‑solving skills and creativity along the way. Our numeracy learning covered a wide range of key topics, including area and perimeter, money skills, 2D and 3D shape, and decimal numbers, helping to build confidence and deepen understanding. Throughout the term, the children showed enthusiasm, teamwork and curiosity, making it a rewarding and memorable learning experience for all.
