Science and Technology

The study of Science and Technology at St Thomas helps children explore the natural world, materials, forces, energy, living things, and how technology works. Pupils learn through hands-on investigations, experiments, and creative design projects.

Through Science and Technology, children develop important skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. They also learn to ask questions, test ideas, and apply knowledge to real-life situations, helping them become curious, innovative, and confident learners.

Below is our current Science and Technology curriculum topic cycle. To ensure full coverage of the curriculum, and to provide pupils with a broad and balanced Science education, topics are taught on a three-year rotation. This approach allows pupils in mixed-age classes to study a wide range of Biology, Chemistry and Physica without repetition, while also building knowledge and skills progressively as they move through the school.

Each year within the cycle introduces new themes and concepts, enabling pupils to deepen their understanding over time and make meaningful links between topics. The cycle is carefully planned to ensure continuity, progression and equal learning opportunities for all pupils.

We are currently on Year C.
