Family Support

At St Thomas Primary School, we recognise that supporting children means supporting their families too. We are committed to working in partnership with parents and carers to promote children’s emotional wellbeing, resilience and happiness.

Community Cafés

We also run Community Cafés, which offer an informal and welcoming opportunity for parents and carers to:

  • Meet other families

  • Build connections within the school community

  • Access advice and signposting to further support if needed

Community Cafés are relaxed, friendly sessions designed to reduce isolation and strengthen relationships between home and school.

Parent and Carer Support Workshops

We regularly host School In-Reach Parent/Carer Workshops, led by our Family Engagement Officer, to support families with common emotional and behavioural challenges children may experience.

These sessions provide:

  • Practical strategies to use at home

  • Guidance on supporting children’s emotions

  • A safe, supportive space to ask questions and share experiences

Recent and upcoming workshops include:

  • Big Emotions – Anger

  • Big Emotions – Worries

  • Self-Esteem and Resilience

All sessions are held in school during the school day and are open to parents and carers. Information about dates and times is shared via Class Dojo and school communications. If you feel you are struggling with your child’s emotions and would like support or advice, these sessions can be extremely helpful.

Getting in Touch

If you would like to attend a workshop, learn more about family support offer, or discuss any concerns, please contact the school office or message Mrs Nicholas, Family Engagement Officer, via Class Dojo or by contacting the school office.

We are here to help and support you.

A particular strength of the school is the support and guidance they provide for all families... staff keep parents well-informed about their children's progress and encourage them to attend workshops and drop-in sessions that provide help for them to support their children's learning at home - Estyn 2023
