Nursery
Welcome to Nursery!
Welcome to Nursery! We’re excited for a fantastic year of learning.
Our team is made up of Miss Morgan, Mrs Jenkins-Davies, Miss Davies, Mrs Kinga and Miss Maddick, and we will be teaching and supporting your children throughout the year.
This Term's Learning
This term in Nursery, children will explore exciting topics that support curiosity, confidence and a love of learning.
We will begin with our topic Plants, where children will learn what plants need to grow, including soil, water and sunlight. Through hands-on experiences, they will plant and care for flowers, developing a sense of responsibility and pride. Alongside this, we will explore healthy eating, helping children understand how food supports growth and wellbeing.
We will also focus on our character strength of curiosity, encouraging children to ask questions, explore and share their ideas.
Later in the term, we will move on to our Pirates topic, using imaginative play and storytelling to develop communication, teamwork and creativity.
Outdoor learning will continue to play an important role, supporting children’s physical development, confidence and understanding of the world around them through active and sensory experiences.
Last Term's Learning
Nursery children had a fantastic term filled with exciting learning experiences that supported their curiosity, confidence and emotional development.
Our Science and Technology topic was Space, where children explored planets, stars, night and day and astronauts through stories, imaginative play and hands-on activities. This topic encouraged children to use their imagination, ask questions and develop a growing interest in the world beyond Earth.
In Language, Literacy and Communication, children listened to space-themed stories, learned new vocabulary and shared their ideas during group discussions and play. Role play and storytelling helped to develop confidence in speaking and listening. The children also took part in Welsh Music Day, where they enjoyed listening and responding to Welsh songs and music. They have also been developing their early communication and phonics skills through the Monster Phonics programme. They have taken part in sound recognition activities, mark making, practising pre-writing shapes and enjoying regular library visits.
In Health and Wellbeing, we focused on our character strength of bravery, supporting children to try new things, explore new ideas and take part in unfamiliar experiences. Children practised recognising and talking about their emotions and were encouraged to develop early problem-solving skills. Stories and discussions helped children understand that being brave means trying, even when something feels a little scary, supporting resilience and a growth mindset.
In Humanities, we have been learning about the changing seasons, observing how the world changes throughout Winter and Spring. Children have explored seasonal weather and natural changes outdoors, and have enjoyed discussing what they notice in their environment. We also explored the Easter story, shared springtime stories, and talked about special people in our lives, helping children to develop an understanding of the world around them and their place within it.
In Expressive Arts, children have enjoyed a range of creative activities linked to seasonal themes, using different materials and techniques to express their ideas and develop fine motor skills. They particularly enjoyed creating artwork for Eisteddfod, where they were able to express themselves creatively.
In Mathematics and Numeracy, children have been developing their understanding of number through a range of practical activities. They have been focusing on number recognition, counting in both English and Welsh, ordering by size, and exploring the concepts of one more and one less.
In Health and Wellbeing, children have developed physical confidence through SKIP Cymru, fundamental movement skills and outdoor learning. They have also been learning important social skills such as kindness, cooperation, sharing and taking turns, helping to build positive friendships and relationships within the classroom.
Across all areas of learning, children developed social skills through play, learning to take turns, work together and build positive relationships within our class. Overall, it was a positive and memorable term, with the children making lovely progress in confidence, independence and learning.
